There is no doubt that people own pets as they provide companionship and joy in their lives, well it’s also alleviating feelings of stress and depression to improve mental health well-being. And emotional support animal encourages people to feel a sense of responsibility for an animal’s life and encourage them to perform their duties to look after and care for a pet providing them with a sense of accountability. The need for people to have a sense of responsibility and accountability for a life can provide us with purpose and motivation. Especially for those who are suffering from anxiety and depression that may not have any kind of emotional support resources, such as a psychologist, counsellor or therapist.

In times of isolation animals have proven to show affection and companionship to their owners and this is a very helpful way to manage personal hardships. As animals cannot verbally communicate with us, pets have learnt to understand us in different ways that people may not.


Emotional support animals provide many psychological advantages to their owner in case of any kind of disability and support in any critical situation. Although people will always remain in search of any person who will accompany them through life it may not always be possible. However, emotional support animals can accompany them through life, empower a healthy lifestyle. Emotional support animals can be very useful in chronic mood disorders and can alleviate the overbearing impacts of anxiety attacks and disassociation that comes with chronic depression.


While they are not allowed to go in public places, it is important to recognise the benefits of an emotional support animal has on a person and allow these animals to enter public places and public transport.

Studies have recognized that pets can provide long term support in improving mental health. A research study explores that there is a positive impact on mental health by having pets because it encourages people to interact with others socially and manage their time and routine works effectively.


Supporting Trauma – people who are suffering from trauma and difficult situations, the emotional support dogs as pets provide them comfort that will help reduce and maintain the blood pressure and maintain calmness in stressful environments and situations.


Improve physical health – dogs especially can be are very energetic and always accompanying the owner in every situation. Therefore, they always try to encourage their owners to engage in any physical activity and try them to play. This kind of physical activity helps humans to control blood pressure and improve confidence in all aspects of life.

These loneliness feelings can be dangerous for their physical and mental health. But pets have the ability to reduce feelings of loneliness felt by accompanying them in any critical situation. Furthermore, they always distract their owners from negative thoughts which can cause anxiety and depression.
