Why is there a need for this charity?
“Our aim of this charity service is to improve to mental wellbeing and quality of life for people and pets in non-metropolitan communities.”
Endless Wags Australia (EWA) is a Canberra, Australia based non-for-profit organisation, expanding into New South Wales, Australia. The idea of endless wags is to find surgeries and provide goods for pets where owners find it hard to afford to improve the longevity of the animals life and increase mental well-being in people
Majority of communities in Australia are located in regional and remote areas, these smaller towns experience a higher rate of low socio-economic communities. There are higher rates of mental health illnesses including depression and anxiety that go widely unrecognised and untreated. Many people who own pets because it provides them comfort when experiencing personal hardship; and companionship in times of loneliness from living in more remote areas of Australia. It is important to support these communities, especially those of low socio-economic demographics.
Regional and remote communities tend experience tougher and longer bouts of financial hardship than metropolitan areas. These communities are usually provided with less social support as comparable organisations focus on easily accessible metropolitan areas.
There is a gap in support services that focuses on homelessness, the less fortunate and animal foster carers. We understand that in times of personal and financial hardship a companion may just be as important as food and shelter, even if it may be a foster animal.
We are driving to close this gap by absorbing the cost of food, pet supplies, veterinary check-ups, surgeries and worming, tick and flea treatments for the pets of the homeless, less fortunate and animal foster carers. To ensure that these animals can continue to prosper and provide the homeless and less fortunate a longer time with their beloved animal.
We want to go the extra mile to empower animal foster carers to reduce the number of healthy pets that are surrendered to shelters, abandoned or euthanised, due to financial hardship. Many animal foster carers take upon the role of providing a temporary home for these animals and are usually rescued from shelters and streets. They bring animals back up to health
through expensive surgeries, 24/7 care and premium pet food for nourishment. We recognise that this may cost thousands of dollars, that animal foster carers may not be able to afford.
EWA is working with non-for-profit animal fostering organisations to provide and empower animal foster carers to continue their work. There come times when animal foster carers cannot provide as much support due to financial hardships. Our service wishes to alleviate the financial burden by absorbing some costs that are associated with providing temporary homes for these animals.
